Daily lighting schedule
The Christmas lights in Málaga have the following general lighting schedule:
- 🕠 Sunday to Wednesday: 18:30 to 24:00
- 🌙 Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and holiday eves: until 2:00
- 🎉 Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve: until 6:00
Musical shows
The traditional light and sound show on Calle Larios is renewed this year with “Nativity of Light”, a completely new proposal replacing the well-known celestial angels from previous years.
There will be three daily shows, combining music and synchronized lighting effects:
🕕 Show times: 18:30 · 20:30 · 22:00
📅 Dates: November 28th, 2025 to January 5th, 2026
❌ (Except December 24th and 31st, when there will be no show)
The large luminous medallions decorating the street represent different scenes from the Nativity, accompanied by a selection of Christmas music to enhance the festive atmosphere.
Following tradition, Verdiales music will feature in several shows on December 23, 25, 26, 27, and 28, paying tribute to one of Málaga’s most genuine cultural expressions.
Best spots to see the lights on Calle Larios
Based on years of experience, the best spot depends mainly on two factors:
- The main factor is the group setup; it’s different if you go alone, as a couple, or with children.
- The second factor is whether you want to see the full show or just part of it.
- If you want to see the full show, it is best to arrive at least 20-30 minutes early to secure a good spot.
What is a good spot?
Somewhere comfortable with room to move if needed. Avoid the start (near Plaza de la Marina) or the end of the street (near Plaza de la Constitución). My advice is to stay as central as possible, entering through a side street. This is especially important for families with children.
Otherwise, you can position yourself in the middle of the street, knowing that mobility will be limited, especially if you only want to see part of the show.
Does the Christmas light show take place in the rain?
Yes. Since it is outdoors, there are no restrictions on rainy days.
- The show goes on as usual at 18:30, 20:00, and 22:00.
Nativity of Light: the new Christmas lights on Calle Larios 2025
In 2025, the iconic Calle Larios debuts a new Christmas design called “Nativity of Light”, marking a new stage after three years of the Celestial Angels.
The new light installation consists of large medallions representing different scenes of the Nativity mystery, along with 16 stars, 32 side columns, and 32 streaks synchronized with music to create a unique visual and sound spectacle.
These structures have been manufactured using the innovative Ecogreenlux technology, reducing light pollution by up to 93% and achieving 60% energy savings, consolidating Málaga as a reference for sustainability and innovation in festive lighting.
Additionally, the decorative motifs are designed to look good both day and night, thanks to reflective finishes and dichroic materials that provide shine and color without artificial lighting.
The installation is complemented by careful decoration on the streets perpendicular to Larios, incorporating motifs inspired by the same design, creating an immersive Christmas experience throughout the heart of Málaga.
Celestial Angels: past Christmas lights on Calle Larios
These were 16 angels, four meters tall, supported by 32 side columns. Each angel had tails 12 meters long, designed with effervescent effects, starting in warm white and ending in pure full-flash white, like trails that fade as they pass.
The design included dichroic leaf glitter so the angels would shine during the day as well. The supporting columns were decorated with gold sequins and crystals.
Christmas markets and complementary activities
If you visit Málaga at Christmas, don’t limit yourself to the lights. The city offers a variety of activities to complement the experience:
- Paseo del Parque Christmas Market: Open from December 1 to January 6, featuring local crafts and typical products.
- Ice rink at the port: Perfect for family or friends.
- Traditional nativity scenes: Visit displays in churches and iconic buildings, such as the City Hall.
